America East Basketball: Top 10 head coaches of the century (2000-20)
By Joey Loose
9. Kevin Broadus – Binghamton (2007-2009)
If the situation had been different, Broadus could have very well built a successful program at Binghamton. He was named head coach in 2007 after spending time at Georgetown and other schools as an assistant coach. The Washington DC native had all kinds of experience in that part of the country and has proven himself as a valuable recruiter as well.
At Binghamton, he quickly put the pieces together for a program lacking much success since joining D1 earlier in the decade. After a fourth-place finish in his debut, he led the Bearcats to a historic season in 2009. They won 23 games, tied for the conference’s regular-season crown, and made their first NCAA Tournament in program history, bowing out to Duke in the first round.
Unfortunately, Broadus was dismissed soon after in connection to violations and allegations at the school. He eventually bounced back, returning to Georgetown and later Maryland as a high-impact assistant coach. He has since resumed his head coaching career, taking over at Morgan State in 2019. If Broadus can stay out of trouble, then he can do some great things with the Bears in the MEAC.
