NCAA Basketball: Formerly injured players set for big impact in 2020-21
John McGriff – St. John’s
As any fan of basketball mixtapes probably knows: 1) everybody looks great in a mixtape and 2) John McGriff can control a basketball on the court. Frequently lauded as ” having the best handles in high school” in numerous YouTube videos. His dribbling alone is not going to guarantee success alone.
Having gone to Bishop McNamara High School, then enrolling at Huntington Prep, he is used to competing at the highest possible level. Some point to the fact that he only averaged 7 points per game at Huntington Prep as evidence that all those YouTube videos caused him to be overrated. The almost six assists per game. however, indicate to Coach Mike Anderson that Harris will provide exactly what he needs in a point guard, a great assist/turnover ratio.
There is still some question if leading scorer LJ Figueroa will keep his name in the NBA Draft with his projection currently being a late second-round selection at best, but there will still be plenty of point-getters for Harris to pass to.
Having the option to set-up Rasheem Dunn (11.9 ppg), Julian Champagne (9.9 ppg), and Marcellus Earlington (9.0 ppg), Harris’ contribution will be seen in their totals improving.
