Hampton Pirates

Hampton wasn’t great this last season winning just fifteen games and the fact that Ben Stanley’s partner in crime Jermaine Marrow has graduated doesn’t help. Between Stanley and Marrow, the duo averaged 46.8 points per game accounting for well over half the team’s points last season.

Regardless there’s still some upside for Stanley returning for his redshirt junior season, heads are starting to turn to the HBCU’s around the country as some top recruits in the future classes begin to show more and more interest. Five-star center Makur Maker chose an HBCU recently with Howard.

There would be nothing left up for debate if Stanley elected to return, he’d be the go-to guy on the team and see even more opportunities with the ball. The supporting cast around him has to raise some eyebrows, with just one other double-digit scorer returning with Davion Warren.

Tough to know if Stanley would be able to backpack this Hampton team to the postseason, you have to imagine this would be the hardest route to get there of the teams on his list. With pro and NCAA tournament aspirations, it wouldn’t surprise me if he moves on.

If Stanley wants to continue to represent an HBCU and cement his legacy at Hampton as one of the best to ever play there then the decision to remain at Hampton seems pretty self-explanatory. Would understand if he stayed but I wouldn’t keep your hopes up if you’re a fan of Hampton.
