8. Florida Gators

Talent-wise the Gators were one of the strongest teams in the nation last season. A highly ranked-recruiting class, including top graduate transfer Kerry Blackshear Jr, provided a lot of positive sentiment for the program heading into the 2020 season. However, a playing style that failed to cater to the team’s strengths hindered consistent results down the stretch for Florida. Built to run and capitalize on its athleticism and speed, the Gators were weighed down by a methodical pace leaving its best players out of rhythm.

If Coach White does not change or cater towards his roster, these inefficiencies will persist in upcoming seasons. However, James White is a guard well suited to both up-tempo and methodical styles. His perimeter abilities will significantly boost a stagnated offense and open the floor more for other playmakers and downhill players to attack the rim.

White has the capability to create his own shot and can develop greater consistency as a facilitator within this system. His added skills on the other end of the floor, as both a rebounder and perimeter defender, will thrust him into early playing time and success among the current stable of guards. The only negative for the Gators is their current backlog of guards on the roster and committed to the team in the 2021 class.
