WAC Basketball: Top 10 head coaches of the century (2000-20)
By Joey Loose
Who are the most accomplished head coaches in WAC Basketball this century?
Throughout recent history, WAC Basketball has brought forth excitement in the college basketball world. The conference has greatly transformed recently, with history-making programs like Arizona, Utah, and UNLV no longer in the league. Regardless, there has still been plenty of excitement in the conference since the turn of the century, even as the conference continues to change and realign.
The success, most past and present, is the result of the fantastic efforts of these head coaches. The names on the sidelines of these programs work hard to put these WAC schools into position for success. As the prestige of the conference has diminished in recent years, the difficulty in building successful programs has only increased. Bringing high talent and building them into future stars is all part of the challenge in being a successful WAC coach, pressures that only continue to build as New Mexico State dominates the league.
With all of this in mind, we’ll be taking a closer look at the ten greatest head coaches of the WAC since 2000. With conference realignment changing the league several times, there are plenty of names to consider, and we’ve managed to narrow the list to ten great coaches. We have judged and ranked them based on wins, postseason success, and how they’ve impacted their programs in a positive way during their tenures. A few coaches stand out more than others, though we’ll focus solely on their time in the WAC during this timeframe.
Let’s get right into the rankings, looking at each coach’s accomplishments in the WAC since the turn of the century.
