NCAA Basketball: A look at teams interested in top-10 F Caleb Houstan
North Carolina Tar Heels
After a massively disappointing past season, the Tar Heels have brought in a top-2 overall recruiting class, led by five-star point guard Caleb Love and multiple frontcourt weapons. There still are concerns at the shooting guard and wing positions, something that Houstan could fill.
Considering that Duke seems to be a frontrunner, UNC taking him away would be a massive coup for the program. But Trevor Keels, a five-star shooting guard recruit, is someone the Tar Heels have a much more likely chance to land compared to Houstan. And with top-50 forward Dontrez Styles already committed in the 2021 class, Houstan isn’t a priority for the program to make an aggressive pursuit for.
Oregon Ducks
If St. John’s transfer LJ Figueroa gets a waiver and plays this upcoming season, he’ll be gone after just one year. That would leave a big hole at the small forward position, allowing Houstan to come in and have a massive role on the team.
He would join potentially Nathan Bittle, a five-star big man who is rumored to be favoring the Ducks. His commitment would help in terms of landing another big fish in the 2021 class. But will they be able to get a major prospect to travel out west? That issue will determine whether they even stand a chance in this process.
