NCAA Basketball: A look at teams interested in top-10 F Caleb Houstan
Seton Hall Pirates
If the Pirates could land the upset and get Houstan, he’d be the second five-star commit for the program, joining Isaiah Whitehead. The program is coming off one of its best seasons ever, led by Big East Player of the Year and All-American Myles Powell.
Houstan could come in and have the ball in his hands just as much as Powell did and with the right surrounding talent could be in a good position to win also. But in the early stages if this recruitment, it’s hard to see how Seton Hall can stand up to the blue bloods on this list and make a good enough case to ultimately win his services.
Tennessee Volunteers
The Vols are now consistently in the running for five-star players, having landed three in the past couple of years. And assuming that Josiah Jordan-James breaks out and goes pro after next season, the small forward position will be a need to be addressed in the 2021 class.
That being said, I doubt Tennessee spends much time targeting Houstan. That’s because there are three five-star recruits the team has a much better shot at currently. They’re viewed as a favorite to land quality point guard Kennedy Chandler, who is rumored to possibly be a package deal with five-star forward Paolo Banchero. And then there’s forward Jabari Smith, who has been linked to the Vols for a while. This is a case where the coaching staff would be better served recruiting elsewhere.
