MAC Basketball: In-depth look at Ohio Bobcats junior guard Jason Preston
By Bryan Mauro
MAC Basketball is always an extremely competitive conference and often has many top players. One of them is Jason Preston, star of the Ohio Bobcats.
MAC Basketball is one of the better mid-major conferences every year. They have always been a good jumping-off point for some of the best young coaches in the game. Recently, Nate Oats was able to build up the University of Buffalo into a ranked team and one of the up and coming mid-major programs. He turned his success at Buffalo into a job as the Alabama Crimson Tide head coach. He is just the most recent example.
One other thing the MAC possesses is some of the best mid-major players in the country. Every year they have a player near the top is some offensive statistical category. Their players are coveted by many power schools and when they do transfer to power schools they are often successful. The conference provides great competitive basketball and they also have a few teams every season who can put a scare into the power schools.
The Ohio Bobcats are no exception to either of these rules the school has been a jumping-off point for some very successful coaches like Danny Nee, John Groce, and Jim Christian have all used the success generated at Ohio to bigger jobs with higher expectations. The Bobcats have higher expectations this year in year two of the Jeff Boals era.
Boals was able to record 20 wins in year one and he was able to do it by getting the most out of his roster. He also developed one of his players into a star and a future NBA player. Junior guard Jason Preston is ready to become a national name and hopefully, can work on getting Ohio back into the tournament.
