Why you should know Jason Preston

With just a real quick show of hands how many had heard of Preston before this article?  I’m guessing the number is low, and that is a shame considering how dynamic of a player Preston is. The junior point guard already has made a name for himself in Athens. The guard is also one of the best two-way players in the country. Preston has already had a decorated career in only two full seasons. It’s hard to imagine what is in store for year three.

The guard led Ohio in points, field goal percentage and three-point shooting percentage last year. He averaged just under 17 points per game last year and did that while shooting over 50 percent from the floor and 40% from deep. He is incredibly efficient, and he is one of the best passers in the college game. The point guard also led Ohio in Assists with 238 total which is good enough for 7.4 per game. That average was the second-most assists in the nation, only behind North Carolina A&T star Kameron Langley. He is also a great rebounder especially for a guard averaging 6.4 per game.

Preston fills up a stat sheet and often with ease. He scored in double figures in 30 out of 31 games a season ago. His career highs are impressive with 27 points, 14 rebounds and 13 assists, and while they were all accomplished in different games, he has shown that he can impact a game in a lot of ways.

He was able to secure the first triple-double of his career and the second one in Ohio basketball history in a game against the Miami Redhawks. In that game, he had 15 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists. Many would say that Preston already broke out, but has he really?  Hard to break out when many people had no idea who he was. I promise if he puts up a similar stat line this year, he won’t be unknown for long.
