2021 New York guard Jordan Riley included UConn Basketball in his final five teams. What kind of impact could he have if he chose the Huskies, and why he could be a diamond in the rough?

Everyone loves to compare recruiting classes with rankings and what not but you should never judge a player by their stars. Jordan Riley is a prime example. The 2021 guard is unranked in on 24/7 for the class of 2021 and when you get a chance to watch him it really makes you scratch your head.

Jordan Riley announced this weekend that he would be making a decision on where he’s going to play his college ball real soon. Riley included Kansas, UConn, Florida State, Georgetown, and Saint John’s on his most recent list.

The tape and the offers Riley have received speaks for itself, this kid can flat out play:

It’s easy to see why he’s caught the interest of so many top tier programs despite being unranked and why Dan Hurley and company have really made a push for the guard. The off-ball guard spot could end up being a big need for the Huskies in 2021 if James Bouknight goes pro, which many believe he will.

Riley reminds me a lot of Bouknight in the sense that they both have a lot of bounce and have a decent outside shot. Both excel at getting to the basket making Riley a great prospect to replace Bouknight moving forward.

The Huskies should still have two more seasons of Tyrese Martin as an off-ball guard assuming Martin doesn’t get a waiver for the upcoming 2020 season. Behind Martin, there’s not much depth if any at all.

UConn does not have anyone committed yet for 2021 and will be looking to fill at least three scholarships for the next season. Most of those departures are expected in the frontcourt with Isaiah Waley, Tyler Polley (Unless he gets a fifth year?), and Josh Carlton all seniors for the upcoming 2020 season.

Riley could be a diamond in the rough for whatever program lands him and I expect he will begin to garner more national attention his senior season. Riley is rated as a three-star on Rivals.com. It is expected that Riley will be announcing his decision in the next week according to his father.

Husky fans should be keeping an eye out for this decision and remember to not read into his ranking. If you have watched any of his film then you know the kid has star potential. He didn’t receive so many high major offers on accident.
