2021’s potential Mr. Basketball for Michigan Jaden Akins is down to six NCAA Basketball schools in his recruitment.

Jaden Akins, the 71st ranked composite recruit in the 2021 NCAA Basketball class, has trimmed the programs left in consideration to six: Michigan, Michigan State, Florida, Northwestern, Mississippi State, and DePaul. The 6’3” point guard averaged 23.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and a pair of blocks and steals per game for Farmington HS (MI) last season.

Akins was likely due for a rankings bump this summer had the Nike EYBL circuit occurred. He is an explosive scoring threat and handles himself well above average on the glass for a guard. He has a strong ability to break down his defenders at a high rate and comfortably pull perimeter and mid-range shots on the move.

Already with an impressive arsenal of dribbling moves to keep defenses off-balance, Akins draws the complete attention of his opponents. Once he gets in the middle of the lane, he becomes a dangerous and quick-twitch facilitator for his teammates. Specifically, he will find success tons of success on teams that have a solid big man down low and corner 3-point shooters to compliment his penetration inside.

Wherever he ends up, Akins will command a significant portion of the offense’s usage. His developed ability to hit shots in rhythm and at awkward angles already makes him a dangerous weapon in the college game. Which of his 6 remaining schools looks to be in the best position to secure and progress his skillset?
