4. Florida Gators

Mike White has not had issues convincing top talent to join him in Gainesville. The issue he’s experienced is finding ways to effectively utilize their collective talents in a system on the floor. Last season’s team was filled with athletes who operate best in space but were restricted from doing so in White’s game plan. A lot of those athletes are returning for the 2020 season and hoping to be let loose.

The recruitment of Akins is therefore not incredibly out of touch with events that have already transpired with the program. However, the skillset and creativity Akins possess to find his own shot suits how the Gators operated last season. He is seemingly an ideal candidate to run this system flanked with shooters.

Despite having projected weapons in the backcourt for 2021, Akins would be a primary initiator for the Gators offense. Even though creating wasn’t a huge part of his game last season at Farmington, it will be an area he is likely to develop at the next level. Commanding a larger defensive focus will force his hand a bit on this, but he has shown plenty of court vision to make an easy transition towards this aspect of the game.
