UConn Basketball started out its 2021 recruiting class with a bang landing four-star point guard Rahsool Diggins. Here’s a breakdown of what he’ll bring to the Huskies moving forward.

Rahsool Diggins announced on Sunday that he would be committing to UConn basketball making him the first recruit in the Huskies 2021 class. Diggins is a four-star point guard who ranks just outside the top-50 on popular recruiting site 24/7.

Diggins hails from Philadelphia Pennsylvania and has been a priority recruit for Dan Hurley. UConn has some depth at the point guard position but the addition of Diggins will be crucial down the line with R.J. Cole and Brendan Adams set to graduate at the end of what would be Diggins freshman year.

Diggins is already an elite three-point shooting talent that has a solid all-around game, he has no problem getting to the basket and finishing through contact and he’s already establishing himself as a floor general. All things that the past elite point guards at UConn have thrived with.

One early comparison I’d make for Diggins as far as playstyle would be to Shabazz Napier, both shifty guards who are about the same size, and both with a good outside shot. Diggins already looks like a leader on the court and someone that has no problem being a primary ball-handler under pressure.

Villanova had been thought of as the slight favorites for Diggins since Diggins was high school teammates with Wildcats guard Collin Gillespie and being a Philadelphia native. Villanova moved in another direction allowing Hurley to pounce on the four-star guard.

UConn has been busy on the recruiting trail looking to fill their remaining scholarships for 2021. The Huskies are coming off back to back top 20 recruiting classes and are keeping their foot on the gas. With the addition of Diggins UConn will have a minimum of two scholarships moving forward for next season. Hurley will continue to be aggressive in filling them.

Keep an eye on Samson Johnson, the shot-blocking forward is from the same school as 2020 recruit Adama Sanogo. Johnson would fill a big need down low as UConn will be losing both Josh Carlton and Isaiah Whaley next season.

Rahsool Diggins has star potential for the Huskies and is a great first addition for the Huskies 2021 class. UConn will stay aggressive on the recruiting trail as they look to put together their third consecutive top-20 recruiting class.
