8. Filling out the rest of the 2021 class

If Duke Basketball can land Chandler, their next class of freshmen will automatically be given an “A” grade. But even if the big-time point guard isn’t part of their plans, there are still other targets the Blue Devils have a great chance at.

One is Patrick Baldwin Jr., ranked No. 1 overall currently. He has the Blue Devils firmly in the running, along with the usual heavyweights. But there have been rumors that Northwestern is one of the frontrunners, looking to build a mega class of their own. Paolo Banchero, a top-5 overall big man, is reportedly considering playing alongside Chandler, which could be big for Duke, although Tennessee is also among his finalists as well.

Five-star big man Charles Bediako has the Blue Devils among his top-10 but his recruitment is wide open, Plus, Williams is still likely to be around next year anyway. Who could be though is Caleb Houstan, a top-10 overall forward who recently reclassified to the 2021 class. He doesn’t have a list but the rumblings early on seem to be favorable for Duke.

If there aren’t many projected NBA Draft picks on the current Blue Devil roster, there isn’t a need for a giant group of newcomers. But without a point guard target (if Chandler goes elsewhere) or a center, this class could very well be filled with three versatile wings or forwards that can play multiple positions. AJ Griffin is already joining the team but if they can get either Houstan or Baldwin Jr. as well, the Blue Devils will be very happy. That, and possibly a veteran guard transfer in the offseason too.
