20. Robert Allen – Samford to Ole Miss

2019-20 stats: 14.1 ppg and 7.0 rpg

The 6’8 forward was one of the best players in the SoCon last season, having a number of 20+ point performances, including 28 against UNC Greensboro and 25 versus East Tennessee State. Allen is a strong offensive player who can shoot the ball, although will need to improve on his 29% that he shot this past season.

It’s a little odd that the junior would want to get a waiver to play next season, although with the team’s key pieces all being seniors, it makes sense to capitalize playing on a talented roster. The eligible frontcourt pieces, Khadim Sy and Arizona State grad transfer Romello White, are both better suited as centers, so Allen’s being around would give the Rebels a true power forward that can space the floor.

19. Umoja Gibson – North Texas to Oklahoma

2019-20 stats: 14.5 ppg and 1.9 apg

The 6’1 off-guard was All-Conference USA last season, playing a big role for the league’s best team. He had 21 points in a matchup against Oklahoma, which impressed the team enough to pursue the guard once he entered the portal.

From a scoring standpoint, Gibson would be a big upgrade over Jamal Bieniemy, the starting two-guard who transferred out this offseason for the Sooners. The problem is not only that he’ll be a defensive liability against bigger guards but the former North Texas star struggled mightily against the top competition outside of Oklahoma last season, including single-digit performances against Dayton, VCU, and Arkansas. But with the lack of backcourt depth the Sooners currently have, they’ll like to get a waiver for either Gibson or other offseason transfer Elijah Harkless.
