NCAA Basketball: Updated 2020-21 power rankings after NBA Draft deadline
The Tar Heel players made most of their draft decisions early on. Star point guard Cole Anthony was a given to be gone after one season, but getting back both Armando Bacot and All-ACC forward Garrison Brooks were major positives for the program.
Joining those two in the frontcourt are incoming five-star freshman Day’Ron Sharpe and Walker Kessler. Add a healthy Sterling Manley, and you have arguably the best collective frontcourt in all of NCAA Basketball for the upcoming season. But the play inside wasn’t the issue but rather the production, or lack thereof, from the perimeter players.
Along with five-star point guard recruit Caleb Love, UNC brings in top-50 prospects RJ Davis, Donovan Johnson, and Kerwin Walton to bring depth and an added talent boost. All-around guard Leaky Black will be back and healthy as well.
What separates the Tar Heels projected roster from Duke’s is Brooks. UNC already has a proven go-to guy while the Blue Devils will be looking for one next season. However, the rivals collective depth and proven sophomores in Moore and Hurt help them out as well. But unlike last season, the upcoming matchups between these two will be a much fairer fight.
