NCAA Basketball Recruiting: Pros and cons of Jalen Warley final 6 teams
Oregon Ducks
Pros
Despite being from the west coast, head coach Dana Altman has a great history of landing players from across the country, including most recently, St. John’s transfer LJ Figueroa. If he gets a waiver and plays alongside UNLV grad transfer Amauri Hardy, then the Ducks could use a player such as Warley to be an immediate contributor.
The point guard position for Oregon looks great after having Pac-12 Player of the Year Payton Pritchard for four seasons. It can be very appealing for someone like Warley to be the future, with the offensive that the Ducks runs working to his strengths.
Cons
That is if Warley can get to the starting point guard position. Oregon may not be on the level of Duke or Kentucky on the recruiting trail but they have their fair share of top-100 talent, as well as an annual couple of transfers each offseason. That includes Aaron Estrada from St. Peter’s, rising junior combo guard Will Richardson and incoming four-star point guard Jalen Terry.
Warley will certainly find a role for himself on the roster but stardom isn’t guaranteed. Former top-30 big men prospects CJ Walker and Francis Okoro left the team this offseason after not having a large enough role. Based on the projected 2021-22 roster for the Ducks, there will have to be some turnover on the perimeter if Warley commits, or it could look like a scrambled mess.
