Syracuse Basketball: Preview of Orange 2020-21 depth chart
Power Forward
Starter: Marek Dolezaj
Like Guerrier, Dolezaj earns Syracuse’s starting power forward role due to his familiarity with the team, combined with his competition’s unfamiliarity. Playing over 30 minutes per game last year, Dolezaj worked as a central pillar under the team’s program for yet another season, averaging 10.4 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. Now as a senior, watch for Dolezaj to work as both a defensive anchor and offensive pick n’ roll threat once more.
Behind him steps freshmen Woody Newton, who wields some future starting potential, but remains unlikely to snag the spot away from Dolezaj this year. As a long, fast, and willing shooter, Newton poises to help the Orange spread the floor during his stints off the bench, so make sure to keep an eye out for him even as a secondary option.
Adding some more depth enters redshirt sophomore Robert Braswell. Before going down with a lower leg injury last year, Braswell played minimally but showed some promise by knocking down a few three-pointers while attacking the glass as an active rebounder.
Braswell quite frankly lacks the upside which Newton possesses, holding him back behind the freshmen and clocking in as a third option for the team at power forward. However, he still holds some value as an occasional second or third option off the bench, especially once considering how skinny the team remains at its other positions.
