Let’s take a look at some of the most successful young head coaches in NCAA Basketball today.

When you think of the very best active head coaches in NCAA Basketball, your mind will immediately fall on a few particular names. Title-winning coaches like Mike Krzyzewski, Roy Williams, and Jim Boeheim are amongst the winningest in the history of the game, while Jay Wright and Tony Bennett have really made their mark in recent seasons. The next tier of coaches includes a whole host of names, many of them leading their programs to phenomenal success during their careers.

As these impressive careers have advanced, many of these coaches near retirement, as a fresh crop of head coaches will take over the college basketball universe. Just in recent years, we’ve seen names like Chris Beard emerge as potential stalwarts of the college game. It’s hard to know exactly what will happen, even five years from now, but the young coaches in the game today certainly give us plenty of excitement.

In order to focus on this, we’re going to be taking a lot and ranking some of the best young head coaches, limiting ourselves only to coaches under the age of 40. Note that this is going by current age, and there are a few current coaches who will turn 40 before the next college basketball season begins. There are plenty of promising young assistant coaches, but again our focus is just on those currently running a D1 program.

We already touched on some of the biggest names currently in the coaching world, and it’s intriguing to look at some of their highlights before turning 40. Krzyzewski already had Duke in a title game, Boeheim had led Syracuse to four Sweet Sixteens, and Rick Pitino had already been an NBA head coach with a Final Four in hand. The game has certainly changed these last few decades, but let’s change our focus to today’s young coaches and see what they have in store for the future.
