3. Where LaMelo Ball fits best

The biggest name in the 2020 NBA Draft is easily LaMelo Ball, younger brother of New Orleans Pelicans point guard Lonzo Ball. The former High School viral sensation spent last year in the National Basketball League for the llawarra Hawks overseas, playing well before having a season-ending injury.

Ball has become more than someone who chucks it up from halfcourt as he did in his early days of high school, displaying elite vision and can score at a high level. He’s still growing at 6’6 and has the size to compete in the NBA. His defense is still a question but his offensive production may be too much for teams to pass.

With Ball as the most notable name and possibly the No. 1 overall pick, let’s take a look at where he would be the best fit. As amazing as it would be for him to play alongside Curry and Thompson for Golden State, they likely will be looking more in the frontcourt if they keep their top pick. Cleveland already has Darius Garland and Collin Sexton, while Minnesota has Russell. Young and Ball would be a great offensive fit at Atlanta but terrible on the defensive end.

Among the bottom eight teams, there are three who has a clear need for a starting point guard. The Detroit Pistons and Charlotte Hornets certainly could use an upgrade but those franchises aren’t in the public eye. Certainly not to the level of the New York Knicks, who have the 6th best odds at 9% and may want to move on from Dennis Smith Jr. or Elfrid Payton at point.

He and RJ Barrett would be an interesting fit on the perimeter but it would be entertaining, to say the least. And if you’re the NBA, you want to see Ball play in Madison Square Garden to revive the franchise, or at least have his father in front of New York media.
