Memphis Tigers

Pros

While the Tigers do have a starting point guard in Alex Lomax, his 5.9 ppg scoring average in two seasons gives a lot to be desired. Davison is the polar opposite and would flourish under former NBA all-star guard and Memphis head coach Penny Hardaway, who recently missed out on Memphis native Chandler this past week. He’d have a clear starring role and could dominate in the AAC.

Cons

While the AAC is above the mid-majors, there is a clear gap between them and the power conferences in terms of national attention. Davison also may have to play second-fiddle on the perimeter if Memphis can somehow land five-star and top-10 overall combo guard Jaden Hardy. For all the other options, Davison would be the clear go-to guy. Could Hardy’s presence affect his decision?

Michigan Wolverines

Pros

The great momentum on the recruiting trail for head coach Juwan Howard is real and even more so than when he was initially hired for Michigan over a year ago. Sneaking up to the top six for Davison is huge as the best available point guard in the 2021 class would be a great replacement for current senior guards Mike Smith and Eli Brooks.

As great as Zavier Simpson was as a lead ball-handler for the Wolverines, he was limited in his offensive potential outside of his unique running hook. Davison could be the star force to lead Michigan Basketball, especially considering the amount of offense they’re projected to lose after the upcoming season.

Cons

It’s interesting to see the Wolverines in play for another point guard after landing top-100 recruit Frankie Collins earlier this week. Davison certainly has more upside and would play ahead of Collins if he joins the class but the competition for minutes would be interesting.

Michigan also would be fairly young the season after and might take a slight step back in the Big Ten, which would be a major concern for the five-star guard in his likely lone season in college. The Big Ten doesn’t get many “one and done” prospects these days but could Davison break the trend?
