team. 461. . . . Cyclones . 12

Head coach Steve Prohm has made a concerted effort with the midwest product to stay close to home. That’ll be difficult with the likes of Creighton and Kansas involved but good on the coaching staff to remain competitive on the recruiting trail. It worked out this offseason with top-100 point guard commit Tyrese Hunter, who’ll be a future lead guard for the Cyclones.

Iowa State does have a nice recent history with sending top guards to the NBA, including Monte Morris and Tyrese Haliburton, a former three-star recruit who exploded as a college star. He’s currently projected as a lottery pick in the 2020 NBA Draft.

What this program offers Sallis is the keys to the offense and an opportunity to put up a ton of stats. He may be a “one and done” prospect but odds are good that he’ll be around for a couple of years. If he goes the Haliburton route then Sallis could end up as an All-Big 12 star before he leaves.

The issue that the Cyclones staff will have is making an argument that Sallis will win much as a freshman. Right now, Iowa State looks to be the worst team of all 12 for the upcoming season and the following year could be even tougher if Rasir Bolton goes pro after his junior campaign. They got a top-100 point guard in the class but grabbing a five-star prospect as well is likely too much.
