NCAA Basketball: Ranking the 12 teams in play for 5-star CG Hunter Sallis
A few months ago, Michigan Basketball had to deal with the double-loss of priority recruit Joshua Christopher to Arizona State, as well as commit Isaiah Todd opting to play in the NBA G League. Both were five-star prospects, dealing a blow to head coach Juwan Howard.
He’s done very well to rebound from that, already landing four offseason commits in the 2021 class. Three of them are rated as four-star prospects, including top-100 shooting guard Kobe Bufkin and top-100 point guard Frankie Collins.
Assuming that Wake Forest transfer Chaundee Brown gets a waiver to play this upcoming season, all the rotation guards for the Wolverines (outside of top-60 freshman Zeb Jackson) will be seniors, which makes sense why the coaching staff is prioritizing guards in the upcoming recruiting class.
Adding an instant impact guard such as Sallis would be the cherry on top of the current top-5 overall class. But in an intriguing development, the Wolverines also cracked Davison’s list of six teams after originally not being part of the initial group. Whether they can beat the Alabama programs to land Davison is a different question but will they be able to make a big pursuit for Sallis as well?
There’s no way they can land both guards and will have to focus on one to have a realistic chance. It likely won’t be Sallis, which is why they would be going after the other five-star guard. This would be an interesting choice for the guard of topic to choose since they’re the only Big Ten option but outside of a scholarship offer, not much has indicated that the five-star guard has Michigan as a potential finalist.
