Pac-12 Basketball: Biggest question for each team entering 2020-21 season
Washington – How much help will Naz Carter and Quade Green get?
Not many teams in college basketball have had the switch flipped on them in the wrong direction than the Washington Huskies. Two seasons ago they won the Pac-12 regular-season title and made the championship game of the conference tournament.
Last season, Mike Hopkins’ Huskies finished last season, winning just five games in the conference. As a team last season, the Huskies scored just over 70 points per game, but the offense could be a major issue for Washington in 2020-21.
Between graduations, transfers, and NBA declarations, the Huskies lose 37.1 of those 70 points with freshmen sensations Isaiah Stewart and Jaden McDaniels accounting for 30 of them. Senior guard Nahziah Carter and former Kentucky guard Quade Green and their 23.8 points per game do return but behind them, there is not much behind them, as nobody scored more than Marcus Tsohonis’ 7.3 points.
Washington is awaiting word from the NCAA on waivers for two transfers that would help the team immensely, Erik Stevenson from Wichita State and Cole Bajema from Michigan. Stevenson the 6’3 native of Lacey, Washington netted 11 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists for the Shockers.
Bajema, who is also from Washington saw limited time with the Wolverines last season, but the 6’7 forward showed a strong perimeter game, knocking down four of his seven three-point attempts. Getting them eligible would lift the Huskies’ offensive profile for next season.
