Point Guards

Starter: Jordan Goldwire (26 Minutes Per Game)

Duke has several options at point guard, but in my opinion, the best option is senior Jordan Goldwire. Goldwire is a defensive beast, and last season we saw his offense take a step up as he started 15 of the 31 games he appeared in.

Going into the 2019-20 season, Goldwire’s career-high through two years in Durham was five points, but last year he managed to score 10 or more points five times with his season-high being 13 which he notched twice.

As I mentioned before though, Goldwire isn’t relied on for his offensive ability, it’s his defense that keeps opponents on their toes. Goldwire is incredible on the defensive end, averaging 1.5 steals per game.

Not only is he a defensive star, but last season Goldwire improved his passing and rebounding quite a bit as well. Prior to the 2019-20 season, Goldwire’s highest rebound average was 0.8 rebounds per game and highest assist average was 0.9 per game, last season he averaged 2.5 rebounds and 2.3 assists.

That being said, in 2020-21 I believe Goldwire will improve once again, in every aspect. Given the proper minutes, Goldwire can be a star, and I believe he will be just that next season.

This being said, I would expect Goldwire to start simply because of his presence on the defensive end.

Bench Minutes: Jeremy Roach (14 Minutes Per Game)

Behind Jordan Goldwire there is Jeremy Roach, the 19th ranked recruit according to ESPN’s Class of 2020 rankings. Roach is a five-star out of Leesburg, Virginia, and will likely start several games for Duke, but I wouldn’t expect him to start game one.

Roach will likely get around 15 minutes per game or so and will be relied on by Coach K and the Blue Devils.
