Missouri Basketball: Sean Durugordon adds to solid 2021 recruiting class
Missouri Basketball was able to land three-star wing Sean Durugordon this week. What does he bring to the Tigers starting next season?
After adding only one true freshman for the upcoming season (Jordan Wilmore), Missouri Basketball has plans on a much bigger 2021 recruiting class. Even before the month of September, the Tigers already have three commits, including most recently, Sean Durugordon.
A 6’7 wing playing his high school ball out of Putnam Science Academy in Connecticut, Durugordon has great size and versatility that’ll make him a real contributor in the SEC. He fits best at the small forward position, where there’s a real need at Missouri but can also play at the shooting guard spot as well.
The wing has good size overall (7’0 wingspan), can rebound and defend at a high rate, and has a good basketball IQ. Durugordon might not project to be a 20 ppg scorer at the college level but he’s an all-around asset that the Tigers can work with in a number of ways.
For a program such as Missouri, they aren’t going to be in play for many top-50 or even top-100 prospects, adding someone such as Durugordon that can play and defend multiple positions will be of benefit on future teams. They beat out programs such as Arizona State and Seton Hall fo his services.
The wing joins shooting guard Kaleb Brown and top-150 combo guard recruit Anton Brookshire in the 2021 recruiting class. With five seniors on the 2020-21 roster and another available scholaship, Missouri could add another three players. With nine players on the roster all upperclassmen, head coach Cuanzo Martin needs to focus on landing the new era of Tigers, as they look to get back competing towards the top of the SEC.
It’s going to be tough, as programs such as Arkansas, Alabama, Tennessee, Florida, LSU, and even Ole Miss are recruiting at top-25 levels. Landing quality players will be hard at this stage, so they’ll need players such as Durugrdon to outperform their respective recruiting rankings and breakout once in college.
Even with the longterm concerns, Missouri Basketball can still be happy with landing a talented wing, who could potentially start as a freshman in 2021-22 and have a major impact.
