Centers

With Enoch gone from the picture, no better choice now exists to occupy the center spot than senior Malik Williams. Averaging 8.5 points and 6.1 rebounds per game, while shooting 49.7% from the field, Williams played well during the narrow 18.7 minutes offered to him per game as a useful bench piece.

But more importantly, Williams played big as a defensive stopper for the team last year when checking in to offer relief for Enoch. Expecting him to improve on this already sharpened tool, Williams seems destined to play excessive minutes, likely even scratching the 30-minute per game mark as the team’s bonafide center.

But still hoping to make a significant jump from his freshman year, sophomore Aidan Igiehon poises to take up Williams’s role from last year, serving as the team’s backup. Igiehon barely played during last year’s campaign but his 6’10, 245-pound frame helps him still draw interest as a captivating prospect especially at the defensive end. Expect Ighieon to increase his minutes to around 10-15 per game, potentially also mixing in with the power forwards as well.

As a former walk-on, Hogan Orbaugh finishes out the spot as a depth option. But for the 2021-22 however, Cardinal fans must feel excited with seven-footer Gabe Wiznitzer waiting in the wings, having been named to the roster, yet still maintaining his plans to redshirt this upcoming year.
