NCAA Basketball: Where will four-star 2021 wing Jahmai Mashack end up?
Cal Bears
As the lone school located in California, that makes the Bears the “hometown” option in this recruitment. That should give some hope here, along with knowing that Mashack would find plenty of available playing time as soon as his freshman season. Plus, second-year head coach Mark Fox is a good developer of talent, including turning Matt Bradley into an All-Pac 12 player last season.
The obvious issue is that Cal is far from competing for an NCAA Tournament appearance compared to the other five options. That’ll be even more true if Bradley goes pro even before Mashack arrives on campus. The program will have to hope that location and academics are of priority in his decision.
Oklahoma Sooners
With guards Alondes Williams and Austin Reaves both seniors, there’s going to be a need for additional shooting guards on the 2021-22 roster. Assuming both Umoja Gibson and Elijah Harkless get waivers, they’ll each be juniors as well.
Trusting a pair of mid-major transfers to be quality players in the Big 12 is already a risk, so expect multiple guards in the 2021 class for the Sooners. They have three-star point guard Bijan Cortes already but a top-100 wing such as Mashack would be a huge boost. If not, they’ll be looking hard at the portal next offseason. Coach Lon Kruger has a good history with wing scorers, so that could help Oklahoma in this.
