Small Forward

Starter: Jordan Schakel

A starter in 31 of 32 games last season, Schakel might be the early favorite for the Aztec’s most improved player this coming season.

Expected to take on a leading role in the offense after being their fourth-leading scorer last season, the 6’6 wing averaged 10 points a game last season and proved to be the team’s most reliable three-point shooter, making 43.6 percent of his attempts.

That level of efficiency may decrease with more minutes and shots next season, but the Aztecs’ hopes of continued contention and winning a second straight regular-season title falls almost directly on just how much Schakel can improve his game as a senior.

Backup: Che Evans

The most highly touted member of their 2020 recruiting class, Aztecs fans will see plenty of Che Evans as a true freshman next season.

Spurning 18 other major programs including Seton Hall, Rutgers, and Florida to sign with San Diego State, Evans will make an instant impact off the bench for a team lacking depth on the wing.

Averaging 20.5 points, eight rebounds and six assists per game as a senior in high school, while leading Neumann-Goretti High School in Philadelphia to the Class 4A North Region championship, Dutcher will hope his all-around game translates quickly to the college level next season.
