Coming off of one of the best seasons in the “New” Big East Basketball era, the conference is once again primed for a banner season in 2020-21. How do these teams stack up as we head into the season?

In many ways, Big East Basketball is going to look extremely different this upcoming season. The names the college basketball landscape recognizes are gone. That’s Myles Powell and Markus Howard, in case you forgot. Connecticut is back and it looks like they have the talent to make a little bit of noise in year one.

There is a litany of impact transfer players sprawled across most of the 11 teams, something that is not typically a major Big East storyline. That said, the newcomers are good and it is important to note that guys like Marquette’s DJ Carton and Seton Hall’s Bryce Aiken are legit Big East players.

In other ways, the league will look similar. There should be at least four sure-fire NCAA Tournament teams, and another four that either looks like a tourney squad or are going to be on the bubble fighting for an at large birth. The league will probably cannibalize itself like it did last year where Villanova, Creighton, and Seton Hall all went 13-5, Providence went 12-6, and Butler, Marquette, and Xavier hovered around the .500 mark.

It’s not going to be the same vaunted conference it was in 2019-20, but the 2020-21 edition will be fun to watch and should be, again, one of the country’s better conferences.

This preview of the Big East estimates which transfers are getting waivers, and as we know, that is currently a moving target. All transfers will have an asterisk* by their name. For the most part, however, very few of those up in the air waivers will have an impact as to where each team finishes give or take a spot or two.

It is definitely not going to impact who wins the Big East, as there is a clear frontrunner, but the league should stay competitive as ever. Here is a look at the preseason rankings and preview of each team.
