NCAA Basketball: UNC, Memphis and UCLA among Skyy Clark’s top 4 teams
By Ian Mumm
1. Kentucky Wildcats
Despite the sudden spike in momentum for blue blood and recruiting rival North Carolina, Kentucky has been in the driver’s seat for the majority of Clark’s recruitment. Coach Calipari has zoned in on signing Clark to be the next floor general to lead his program with a long streak of success to back up his sales pitch.
Calipari has been one of the best, if not the best, coaches in the nation in turning talent into successful one-and-done stories over the last decade. Clark only has to look back within the last several years to see the kind of success the Wildcats have had, specifically at his position alone.
Last season’s group of Ashton Hagans, Immanuel Quickley and Tyrese Maxey offered a little bit of everything on the floor for Kentucky. Hagans led the team in assists and steals, Quickley led them in scoring and Maxey met them in the middle proving that Kentucky’s pursuit of multiple top guards works. Clark can come in and recruit others to join him while being confident that the product and production will work out in his favor with the added bonus of contending for a title.
On the floor Coach Cal has allowed his guards to operate in a free-flowing system that maximizes their growth as a basketball player but also gets them to utilize their natural skillsets to thrive on the court. Clark is in awe of what’s been happening in Lexington as he spoke with 247sports.com. “I’ve built a really good relationship with coach [Joel] Justus, that’s my guy right there. We talk almost every single day. The history with Kentucky, their players, and their school is just amazing. It’s a huge thing.”
Since Clark has not narrowed down a specific timeframe to announce his commitment, it does leave the door open for one of the other three schools to gain ground on Kentucky. However, his move to Brentwood also places the Wildcats immediately in his backyard where they can continue to show tremendous love for the star guard. Don’t expect him to go elsewhere.
Prediction: Kentucky Wildcats
