Providence Basketball lands its first recruit in the 2021 class in Legend Geeter. What does he offer the Friars once he arrives?

While fellow Big East contenders Villanova and Seton Hall having already landed multiple prospects in the 2021 recruiting class, Providence Basketball has finally got on the board themselves with a commitment from three-star combo forward Legend Geeter.

From River Rouge, Michigan, Geeter’s recruitment has fallen a bit under the radar. Between most basketball not being played in the summer due to a pandemic and injuries taken the forward out a year ago as well. Getter hasn’t had the opportunity on the AAU circuit to make a case for himself being one of the top prospects overall.

That reflected in his recruitment, with local powerhouse programs such as Michigan and Michigan State not having a ton of interest, despite his accomplishments at River Rouge High School. Last season, Geeter averaged 16 points and 10 rebounds, leading his team to a 20-1 record before things abruptly ended.

One of those wins came against No. 1 class of 2022 prospect and Michigan State commit Emoni Bates. In fact, it’s one of two wins that Geeter can lay claim to. That may not mean much on the surface but this is a player with a winning mindset who can compete and win against the top players at his position.

The ultimate hope for Friar fans is that Geeter can be the next Alpha Diallo. They have similar size and skillsets, 6’7 combo forwards who can play face up and spread the floor, while also able to rebound and exploit potential mismatches inside. Head coach Ed Cooley loves having versatile forwards to work with, including FGCU senior transfer Noah Horchler and juniors Kris Monroe and Jimmy Nichols, Jr. also on the roster.

With the frontcourt players on the current roster all upperclassmen, there’s both a huge need and opportunity for Geeter to have an impact as a freshman out the gate. Assuming there aren’t any early departures, he’ll have some talented guards on the perimeter to make his life easy.

He’s certainly not a “one and done” NBA Draft prospect but Geeter is better than his current spot at No. 241 per 247sportsComposite. That’s not a shot at the recruiting service because you can only judge what you can see, and Geeter hasn’t had the same kind of tape out there. But Providence Basketball doesn’t care, as it only means that they can steal a potential 3-4 year frontcourt starter for years to come.
