CAA Basketball: Preseason power rankings for 2020-21 season
CAA Basketball turned out to be one of the closing acts of the 2019-20 season. Where do the teams stand entering the 2020-21 campaign?
The CAA seemingly had hope for a big spring in 2019-20. The Hofstra Pride proved victorious in the CAA Basketball Tournament, winning the conference tournament for the first time. They were on their way to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2001.
Everyone knows what happened next. The coronavirus pandemic arrived, first canceling the rest of the conference tournaments, then canceling the entire NCAA Tournament. A dream season for the Pride ended with a global nightmare.
Unfortunately for Hofstra, there’s no way to turn back the clock and play in their first NCAA Tournament in almost two decades. The seniors on that team will have to settle for the glory of knowing they could’ve put a real scare into some teams in March. Those who remain will be tasked with taking care of the unfinished business.
Will they be able to do so? The team’s two best players were seniors, departing with the conference tournament trophy. Meanwhile, there are several hungry teams in the CAA nipping at the heels of the Pride, ready to end Hofstra’s two-year stretch of winning the regular-season conference crown.
There are plenty of promising factoids for each team in the ten-member CAA. There are also questions that accompany each team as they vie for the top prize and a trip – hopefully – to the Big Dance. These are the preseason power rankings for the Colonial Athletic Association.
