5. Towson Tigers

In Pat Skerry’s first season with the Tigers, Towson went 1-31. They won just a single game all year. Almost a decade later, Towson may be ready to go to their first NCAA Tournament in three decades.

Towson would probably be one of the CAA favorites if Allen Betrand decided to stick around. Unfortunately for the Tigers, Betrand decided to transfer to Rhode Island during the spring, removing one of the conference’s rising stars from the roster.

What the transfer market takes, however, it sometimes gives back. In the case of Towson, that is expected to mean the return of Zane Martin, who transferred away from Towson earlier on his career. During his lone season with New Mexico, Martin averaged 10.1 points per game and can be expected to improve upon that number if he can work on his three-point shot.

While Betrand is gone, Skerry may not have to look far for his successor. Jason Gibson showed a lot of promise during his freshman season, earning a starting spot for the last third of the 2019-20 campaign. He averaged 8.4 points and 2.1 assists per game en route to garnering a selection to the All-CAA Rookie Team. Expect him to take another step forward during his sophomore year.
