NCAA Basketball: In-depth look at Long Island Sharks senior Tyrn Flowers
By Bryan Mauro
Expectations for Tyrn Flowers in 2020-21
A season ago Long Island went through a great rebrand. A team that many of us have come to know as the Blackbirds, merged with the Long Island Post campus and rebranded themselves as the Sharks. So not only do they have one of the best mascots and color schemes in the entire NCAA they also have one of the best big men in the country as well. It doesn’t hurt that Flowers has a great supporting cast around him as well.
Flowers is an early preseason favorite for the Northeast Conference Player of the Year. It makes sense considering the senior’s overall ability and his arrival on the scene last year. Flowers is going to be named to the first-team all-conference and with a good season is going to get some great looks at the pro ranks. While it may not initially be the NBA, that is not out of the question. The big man has a unique skill set that could find him in the crosshairs of an NBA roster in time especially if he can start making some more threes.
As for the Sharks, overall, they have a good chunk of their roster coming back this year. That roster has some good pieces that if they all come together the Sharks have a team that can run away with the Northeast title. Virshon Cotton and Jermaine Jackson Jr. are the two players who are going to do the bulk of the scoring in addition to Flowers.
As mentioned, the conference is wide open this year with no strong teams and everyone is going to have a different favorite most likely. Watch out for the Sharks, led by Tyrn Flowers.
