NCAA Basketball: Alabama, LSU and Texas among contenders for Alex Fudge
Texas Longhorns
The Longhorns already have a four-man recruiting class, including a pair of guards and forwards. Finding a quality wing would be the cherry on top, with the program targeting not only Fudge but also 6’6 guard/wing Blake Wesley. Between the two, Fudge is probably more likely to come to Austin but it may be difficult to get him out of SEC country.
What would help is the available playing time at small forward. Last season, Texas went with a three-guard lineup after former top-50 forward Gerald Liddell had his struggles. If he doesn’t break out then Fudge would be given the next opportunity. His offense would be needed for a program that has been stagnant on that end of the court, which is why any 2021 commit could find themselves in the Longhorns rotation.
Texas A&M Aggies
The rebuilding effort for second-year head coach Buzz Williams is going well so far, having a roster filled with seniors and key freshmen to take over. One of them is Emmanuel Miller, a 6’7 combo forward who is known for defense and rebounding. He and Fudge would compliment each other on the court and give the Aggies plenty of mismatches to take advantage of.
With top-30 and near five-star guard commit Manny Obaseki on board, Texas A&M is hoping to land both a quality wing and big man. What may hurt them this round is that the program can’t compete head-to-head with the other SEC programs on the recruiting trail since they’re rebuilding. However, Coach Williams is a very convincing recruiter and one of his zoom conversations could help sway Fudge to take a chance.
