NCAA Basketball: Alabama, LSU and Texas among contenders for Alex Fudge
UCF Knights
Another in-state option for Fudge to consider, the Knights can almost guarantee him playing time at the wing, with no one currently projected on the 2021-22 roster. Although they’ve peaked recently during the Tacko Fall era, the AAC program recently landed former five-star forward CJ Walker, pairing him with quality sophomore guard Darin Green. The recruit also is close with current freshman guard Isaiah Adams.
There are building blocks for UCF to make a future run up the conference ladder and playing time is a huge selling point. They’ve been after Fudge for a while but if conference affiliation matters, the SEC is just a notch above from the AAC. They’ll have to hope that they can pull off a shocker to land the top-50 prospect.
USC Trojans
Like Texas, the Trojans already have a four-man recruiting class for 2021. It’s led by a pair of four-star shooting guards in Reese Dixon-Waters and Malik Thomas. Even with all the grad transfers leaving after next season, there is still a pair of small forwards set to still be around in Rice transfer Drew Peterson, as well as former top-100 prospect Max Agbonkpolo.
Fudge can make a good case that he has a higher ceiling than either of them or could play at the four-spot once current top-3 overall freshman recruit Evan Mobley departs for the NBA Draft. The big question though is will USC be able to get him to leave the Southeast and venture out west?
Considering where the other nine contenders are located, the Trojans most likely won’t be able to land Fudge. But with other options available and the program willing to land transfers anyway, there likely won’t be too much sadness that USC will miss out.
