Centers for Baylor Basketball

Technically the Bears didn’t have any centers on the roster in 2019-20. Although, Freddie Gillespie was credited for a lot of those minutes while he was in along with Flo Thamba when he saw time. I’d expect that to be a rotating role along with Tristan Clark, Mathew Mayer, and Jonathan Tchamwa Tchatchoua. All are about 6’9”-6’10” and could fill the shoes if needed.

Now things get interesting with the incoming freshmen. Baylor has two highly recruited Centers coming into the fold in 6’9” 4-star recruit Dain Dainja. It sounds like he fits the mold for the other Forwards on the team and again will likely sit out a year in the Scott Drew system but he is a great talent to have around. It gets really interesting with 7’0” newcomer Zach Loveday.

Now if the Bears feel the need for a true “Center” they have one. If Scott Drew would like him to develop on the practice squad for a year while the team clearly already has plenty of pieces, then well they have a Center next year.

I hope this in-depth look at the depth chart was helpful in leading to the excitement surrounding the likely preseason No. 1 team in the country. The sky’s the limit for these guys. I hope everyone can stay healthy for a full season and make a run deep into March. They deserve every second of the hype after what happened last year.

Sic ‘Em Bears!
