Dayton Basketball: Analyzing Flyers depth chart for 2020-21 season
Forwards
The Forward and Center positions are where things for UD become less pronounced. Both of the contributing forwards in Toppin and Mikesell are no longer with the program, and there isn’t precisely an heir apparent immediately ready to emerge. With a grand total of two (2) forwards on the roster, Redshirt Junior Chase Johnson and Redshirt Freshmen Zimife Nwokeji will be the lone candidates to fill those roles.
Johnson will be returning to the program after missing all but eight games last season, leaving the university after suffering from Post-Concussive Stress Syndrome. Thus far, in his three years as a student-athlete, the transfer Junior and former Florida Gator has appeared in just 14 games.
He has shown the ability to be impactful and indeed has been when given the opportunity. It is just hard to know how much he will contribute—the true definition of a wild card…but with the potencial to be a star.
Nwokeji may have the opportunity to be a breakout newcomer in the A-10 as he has already been participating in the program before this fall. The SPIRE institute graduate signed with the Flyers last December and enrolled in January, working out with the team ever since.
His prep age status, in addition to having a three-month head start acclimating to the team, will put him in a prime position to contribute immediately.
