Baylor’s big past season paying off

Rightfully so, there’s a ton of hype and attention concerning what the Baylor Bears are going to look like on the court for the upcoming season. The return of guards MaCio Teague and Jared Butler have them a potential preseason No. 1 overall team, coming off a campaign that saw the program be No. 1 for the second time ever.

But what’s also happening that’s great for the program is the benefits from the offseason recruiting. With three seniors and a potential early NBA Draft entree in Butler, the program has to have a quality class. And so far, the Bears have done that.

It started with top-100 international forward Jeremy Sochan, before landing four-star shooting guard prospect Langston Love. Just a few days later, Baylor got five-star and top-15 wing Kendall Brown. His pickup was extremely important for the program not just because he’s a five-star stud, but also that the Bears beat out Big 12 rival Kansas.

The Jayhawks were viewed as the favorites to land Brown, who plays locally at Sunrise Christian High School. However, the rumors, investigations, and potential looming sanctions for the Kansas Basketball and football program may have swayed Brown away… to Baylor’s benefit.

For the Bears to be a consistent contender to win the Big 12, they’ll have to have recruiting classes similar to this one, which is currently ranked No. 3 overall in the 2021 group. Don’t be surprised if they add another big to round it out but a clear message has been sent to Kansas this offseason.

Baylor Basketball is going nowhere.
