Maryland Basketball: Mark Turgeon keeps rolling with WCAC Talent
Maryland basketball landed another WCAC commit at a position of prime importance.
Maryland basketball is on the board for the 2022 class after four-star Bishop O’Connell Guard Paul Lewis announced his commitment Sunday via Twitter. As a result, the Terps have the fourth-best 2022 class in the nation and the second-best in the Big Ten.
There has been a pattern when it comes to the point guard position. Mark Turgeon and the Terps have seen success with floor generals from the WCAC.
Fellow Bishop O’Connell Knight Melo Trimble found success with the Terps alongside Dezmine Wells and Jake Layman in the NCAA Tournament. St. John’s College High School standout Anthony Cowan Jr. led the Terps to a Sweet Sixteen appearance and a share of the Big Ten in two consecutive seasons.

Could Paul Lewis be another WCAC product to excel with Maryland basketball?
Lewis could be the next WCAC point guard to lead Maryland basketball in their quest to remain a contender for the Big Ten’s top spot and a national title. So what does he bring to the Terps?
Well, for starters, the 6-foot-3, 165 pounder is not afraid of contact at the rim similar to Cowan Jr. He has a knack for finding open teammates and a nice jumper from behind the three-point line.
On the defensive end, he can clog passing lanes, he locks down the man he’s guarding and he’s unafraid to guard bigger athletes out there. He is someone that will give the Terps a boost on both ends of the floor. Check out his 2019-20 season highlights.
The Terps have three spots left in the 2022 class as of now. DeMatha Catholic’s Rodney Rice, Gonzaga College High School’s Judah Mintz, Arizona Compass Prep’s Sadraque Nganga, and IMG Academy’s Jerace Walker are a few names to keep an eye on.
