Oklahoma City Thunder – Take point guard Devon Dotson

Even after the great past season, the overachieving Thunder has indicated a desire to rebuild, including finding a new head coach. That likely means that future Hall of Fame point guard Chris Paul will be traded and that Dennis Schroder won’t be given a long-term extension after next year. That makes the lead-ball handler spot a need to be addressed in this draft.

There are three candidates for OKC around No. 25, including Malachi Flynn of San Diego State and Cassius Winston of Michigan State. My choice would be Devon Dotson, an outstanding two-way player that can lead the offense and would be a nice perimeter complement to budding star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. We’ve seen other former Jayhawk guars excel in the NBA and Dotson has all the tools to be the next.

Orlando Magic – Take Jaden McDaniels or trade out of the first round

The Magic have one of the more difficult rosters to access. They have talent on paper with Nikola Vucevic, Aaron Gordon, and a now-healthy Markelle Fultz and also have former first-round picks in Mo Bamba and Jonathan Issac that needs both time and minutes for the organization to know whether they’ll be part of the long-term future.

So it doesn’t feel as if whoever the Magic takes at 15 will have much of a role at all next season. We’ve seen teams trade out of the first round and punt until the following year and Orlando may fit that this time around. Otherwise, they should take a power forward to help with the frontcourt depth. McDaniels from Washington makes sense at that range and could have a large ceiling already with the ability to spread the floor.
