NBA Draft 2020: Best-case scenarios for all 30 franchises
Chicago Bulls – Take Killian Hayes at No. 4
The Bulls have a new head coach in Billy Donovan, who had one of the best coaching performances this season with Oklahoma City. He has a new rebuilding job, but at least has a star in Zach LaVine. The rest of the roster is filled with inconsistencies and question marks, particularly at point guard. LaVine has moved there since he always has the ball in his hands but is better-suited playing off the ball.
LaMelo Ball likely won’t be around at 4 but there is another ball-handler with a high ceiling in French point guard Killian Hayes. A projected top-10 pick, Hayes is 6’5 who can pass the ball at a high level, as well as shoot from deep. They drafted Coby White last season but he’s not the same facilitator as Hayes can be. Unless LaVine gets consistent help on the perimeter, Chicago won’t get out of the lottery.
Cleveland Cavaliers – Draft either Isaac Okoro or Obi Toppin
Collin Sexton has the makings of a franchise player, while rookie Darius Garland looked good for the most part. Kevin Love and his huge contract are still around, while center Andre Drummond likely will be around after picking up his player option. That leaves the wing position, with an upgrade needed from Cedi Osman, who’s a solid role player but not a starter on a winning team.
At pick No. 5, there are multiple options that would make sense. If they want to go for the jugular, taking Obi Toppin from Dayton could give them as athletic a roster in the league. Auburn’s Okoko is a natural wing that can be plugged-in early on without issue and his defense would be a major benefit for a franchise that ranks near the bottom.
