The “2” Guards

If Both Gach‘s waiver gets approved by the NCAA, he immediately elevates the Golden Gophers into tournament contention. After averaging 10.6 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game at Utah last season, Gach explored the NBA Draft waters before ultimately ending up at Minnesota.

An explosive athlete who can also shoot the three, Gach has a chance to prosper for his hometown Golden Gophers. He will likely play upwards of 30 minutes per game, with a portion of those minutes coming running the offense at point guard. Gach is not a traditional shooting guard, and can seamlessly run the offense at point guard if handed the keys.

If Gach happens not to get a waiver, it will be rising junior Gabe Kalscheur who gets the start at shooting guard. Kalscheur should start regardless, and for all intents and purposes, we will talk about him in the next slide.

Freshman David Mutaf and sophomore Tre’ Williams are two other players who will press for minutes at the shooting guard spot. Mutaf, a late add from Turkey, is a top-200 prospect whose international experience may have him ready to contribute right away. Mutaf averaged 22 points and nearly seven rebounds for the Turkish junior national team this past year.

Williams got his feet wet for Minnesota last season, averaging 3 points in16 minutes per contest. If he takes the next step, he should see around 15-20 minutes for the Gophers, but Mutaf may bite into his minutes if he impresses.
