ACC Basketball: Preseason power rankings for 2020-21 season
Notre Dame had a decent 2019-20 season, finishing with an overall record of 20-12, but an ACC record of 10-10. However, that’s a down year for the Fighting Irish after they were consistently one of the top teams in the conference.
Now, things will likely get even worse for Notre Dame as they had five seniors graduate last season, and with that, they lost their top-two scorers, leading rebounder, and three of their top-four assists getters.
This being said, the 2020-21 Notre Dame team is going to be much different than the 2019-20 team. Mike Brey and his staff will have to find points, rebounds, and assists from different players next season without a plethora of the players that were so important for them last season.
The good news for Notre Dame is they added three three-star commits in Elijah Taylor, Tony Sanders, and Matt Zona, plus a transfer in Trey Wertz, but he will be forced to sit a year. The bad news for Notre Dame is their best recruit (Elijah Taylor) was ranked 212th nationally, and when you lose as many players as the Irish did, you need players who can come in and make an immediate impact, and it doesn’t appear as if that’s the case.
With that, here is what Notre Dame’s 2020-21 roster will look like:
- Tony Sanders Jr., Freshman, Guard
- Elijah Taylor, Freshman, Forward
- Matt Zona, Freshman, Forward
- Elijah Morgan, Sophomore, Guard
- Trey Wertz, Junior, Guard
- Prentiss Hubb, Junior, Guard
- Cormac Ryan, Junior, Guard
- Nate Laszewski, Junior, Forward
- Dane Goodwin, Junior, Guard
- Robby Carmody, Junior, Guard
- Juwan Durham, Graduate Student, Forward,
- Nikola Djogo, Graduate Student, Guard
Notre Dame has a TINY roster for the 2020-21 season, with only 12 players, that’s less than the scholarship maximum of 13. The Fighting Irish are likely going to look like a much different team during the 2020-21 season than we have come accustomed to.
Not only does Notre Dame have only 12 players on their roster, but they also don’t have a single senior, but have SIX juniors and two graduate students. I wouldn’t expect too much out of South Bend this season, look for Notre Dame to be a bottom-five team in the ACC in 2020-21.
