Devin Vassell from Florida State Basketball is one of the more safe options in what is a very risky 2020 NBA Draft. Here is a look at his draft profile.

To put it bluntly, the 2020 NBA Draft will be one big, collective shot in the dark. No prospect seems to stick out in the conscious of scouts and mock drafts are varying widely across platforms, arguably more than any previous year. This upcoming draft is a substantial combination of hit-or-miss, high risk players from top to bottom. That statement excludes a few players though; one of those players being Florida State Basketball’s special wing standout: sophomore Devin Vassell.

The lanky 6-foot-6, 180 pound Seminole product is the “back road”, as opposed to being the highway, of the 2020 NBA Draft. He is a low-risk, “25 miles per hour, no traffic” option among many other high risk, “better buckle up” counter-options. For example, Vassell’s box score statistics will not necessarily blow away the Basketball Reference enthusiasts of the world.

He averaged 12.7 points per game, 1.6 assists per game and 5.1 rebounds per game (while shooting 53.2 percent on twos and 41.5 percent on threes) as a sophomore last season. He also nabbed 1.4 steals and 1.0 blocks per contest.

“Solid, but not exceptional” one might nonchalantly say about that stat line, but the real pack behind Vassell’s punch goes beyond box score stats. The value of his game related to context; context specifically regarding his skill set. Vassell’s repertoire fits perfectly in the modern NBA.

He is the cliche 3-and-D wing with a winner’s aura, but he goes about that cliche so excellently that it makes him a viable top prospect. Here is a further look into everything that has to do with Vassell ahead of the 2020 NBA Draft.
