NBA Comparison – Mikal Bridges
Amid this year’s NBA restart, one of the most-talked about names early on was a lengthy, versatile, 3-and-D wing by the name of Mikal Bridges. Bridges exploded in the bubble, displaying an array of flashes as a shooter/transition scorer on top of menacing team defense.
That description should sound very, very familiar. It is a vastly similar description to that of this draft profile on Vassell. In a world where NBA comparisons for draft prospects are commonly (and justifiably) ridiculed for their inaccurate absurdness – each and every player is unique after all – the Bridges/Vassell comparison is shockingly satisfying.
Devin Booker, a teammate of Bridges on the Phoenix Suns, recently said “You can’t put him in a box, you can’t give him one title. You can’t even just give him a 3-and-D title that people try to use for him” in regards to Bridges and his potential.
Vassell could fall under a similar description, especially if his discussed handle gets more comfortable. That quote also pertains to the cliche 3-and-D label Vassell has been described as; how he does so much within that role that it is unfair to cram him inside such a simplistic description.
It would not be bold to suggest that the excursion Bridges saw in the bubble could be done by Vassell in a similar fashion a couple years down the road. Because they are similar players, and even the firmest player comparison naysayer would have to attest to that.
