Patriot League Basketball: In-depth look at Boston University guard Walter Whyte
By Bryan Mauro
Expectations for Walter Whyte in 2020-21
The Terriers come into the year as one of the favorites in the Patriot League. Boston University took their game to the next level in their run to the league title last season. The Terriers are going to be hungry because they did miss out on the NCAA tournament experience, just like everyone else in the country. They have a team to compete and get back to the NCAA tournament as the representative from the Patriot League.
As for the individual accolades for the junior guard, he has first-team all-conference aspirations and it would be surprising if he was not part of the five-man team. Whyte is good enough and will have a good enough season that he is going to be considered in the player of the year race and he has a great shot at winning that, especially if the Terriers are a top tier team in the Patriot League.
Whyte is likely going to be one of the top breakout players in the country this year. His volume is going to increase, his role is going to increase and he is going to be able to display all of his elite scoring abilities as well as his prowess for rebounding the ball. Whyte is a good player that is going to put his stamp on many Patriot League games this year.
The Terriers and head coach Joe Jones have a great core returning next season and they have the potential to have one of the best duos in the conference with Whyte and senior guard Javante McCoy. The league as mentioned is always extremely competitive and this year is going to be no different.
Boston University has a team that can go wire to wire with some power schools and they are going to put some of those teams on notice early. When Whyte gets going the Terriers are very hard to stop.
