SoCon Basketball: In-depth look at UNCG senior guard Isaiah Miller
By Andrew Tineo
SoCon Basketball has one of the best guards in all of college basketball in Isaiah Miller. Can he lead UNC Greensboro to a conference title?
The job that Wes Miller has done since 2012 has been nothing short of a masterful job. After the Mike Dement era turned into a catastrophe, Wes Miller would take over a little under halfway into that 2012-2013 campaign. After a few years of rebuilding, UNC Greensboro has been nothing short of a juggernaut in SoCon Basketball.
The Spartans have tallied four straight 20 wins season, including a school-record high, 29 wins in 2018-2019. That team was lead by four-year starter and First-Team All-Southern G Francis Alonso.
With Alonso graduating last year, it was time for Isaiah Miller to take hold of the reigns in Greensboro, as the go-to scorer.
Miller had already been an efficient and consistent shooter prior to Alonso’s departure. Notably, having a four-game stretch of scoring over 20 points in each, while shooting over 50% from the field.
Although the flashiness of the box score is big for Miller, it’s the tenacity and aggressiveness that separates himself from the rest of the conference.
The senior from Covington, GA was born into success, back to his High School days at Newton. He led the Rams to a 28-2 record, where he posted 20 points per game, six rebounds, and 3.1 steals per contest. Was an All-State First Team member in Georgia and won the Underclassmen All-American Game dunk contest.
He spent his first three seasons at Eastside High School, where he would dominate to the tune of 25.3 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 4.3 steals per game as a Junior.
With all of the success that he has had throughout his High School and college career, the thought of him declaring for the NBA almost seemed to be a lock.
Until the UNCG star decided to shock the entire conference and return for a senior season. Miller is in hope of a conference championship and to cement his name as the most decorated player in SoCon Basketball history.
Here’s an in-depth look at why you should know and pay attention to Isaiah Miller.
