Mid-major Basketball: Preseason Top-25 power rankings for 2020-21 season
Who are the top mid-major basketball teams heading into the 2020-21 season? Here’s a look at our top-25.
When it comes to the unique circumstances of the college basketball offseason, it was those in the mid-major basketball world that were most affected. There was genuine concern that the upcoming season possibly wouldn’t even happen which would have tremendous consequences for the smaller schools.
The good news is that progress continues to be made for everyone involved. The new start date is November 25th, with each individual conference setting up their own schedule. For the non-conference, many of the smaller schools are signing up for bubble “multi-team events”, while still hoping to land a marquee matchup or two.
With the season now set to go, it’s time to take an expansive look at who the top teams to watch will be. At Busting Brackets, we’ve compiled 14 writers (including myself) and came up with a collective top-25 list.
This is a conference-based project, so any team not part of the AAC, ACC, Big 12, Big East, Big Ten, Pac-12, and SEC qualifies. That takes away from the subjective opinion, although some “mid-major basketball” programs have elevated themselves onto the national level.
There were great input and contributions from the other writers, and you’ll see some of their quotes throughout this project. Here are a couple more who also participated;
Josh Whitlow – @cbb_prime
Matthew Travis – @mjtrav627
Matthew Mastandrea – @mmastandrea20
Huge thanks to them and everyone else who helped bring together this set of power rankings. Without further ado, and operating under known assumptions of transfer waivers, here are the top-25 (+5) teams for 2020-21.
